Chinese Devices Likely Intended to Disrupt Critical U.S. Communications

It’s not much of a secret that the Chinese have been spying heavily within the U.S. for a long time now, but the last 5 or 6 years have been especially heavy. Chinese intelligence agents, both legal and illegal, appear to be coming to the U.S. in ever-increasing numbers.

And it doesn’t stop there. Recently, a report on CNN highlighted the discovery by U.S. officials of network devices placed on cell towers located near critical U.S. military bases, including those that maintain nuclear weapons and their launch systems (ICBMs, etc.).

These devices, apparently made by Huawei (the Chinese network equipment manufacturer that has close ties to the Chinese government), were located near sensitive facilities and were apparently intended to intercept and/or disrupt critical communications to and from those bases.

Apparently, these devices were located primarily near midwestern bases that house nuclear weapons, and they appeared to be primarily intended to disrupt critical communications including those to and from U.S. Strategic Command, which could include alert traffic and authorization code delivery, potentially disrupting the ability of the U.S. to respond to a crisis event.
