Reuters reports that the Polish government has intercepted and stopped the efforts of a sabotage team comprised of Russian and Belarusian members attempting to create instability in Poland.
According to the Polish government, the team was attempting to do a number of things, including espionage and blackmail. They apparently tried to access Polish defense industry companies that provided key support to the Polish military, and obtain blackmail information on a number of Polish political and military leaders, in addition to general hacking and destabilization efforts.
Russia has had a particular problem with Poland lately, due to Poland’s support for Ukraine in it’s ongoing war with Russia. And the attempted attack is nothing new – Russian cyberattacks on Poland are a constant presence, with attacks coming on a near-constant basis.
And the attacks aren’t limited to cyber activities either – Poland has cited several incident of Russian security service personnel performing physical sabotage and arson, in addition to other intelligence activities aimed at disrupting Polish support for Ukraine.
